Two Bitchy Babysitters – Or Not

The blog title is a bit of a misnomer as there are more than two of us, we are more than babysitters and we’re usually not that bitchy. We are a group of childcare providers, some of us in traditional preschools and daycare centers, others nannies and home care providers. We have various levels of training and education but our common bond is our experience in the care and keeping of other people’s children.

Our original goal for this blog was simply a chance to vent. Because of the nature of our jobs and our relationships with our “clients” we can’t always say the things that need to be said. If the relationship between parent and provider is stressed then no one benefits. Children sense stress. The parents feel anxious about leaving their child. The providers worry about job security. In childcare, you must always pick your battles with the children AND the parents.

Over time, as the idea grew and we considered how to tackle a multi-person blog, we realized we had another goal- to educate. I firmly believe that if we give providers a voice and parents listen we can create a better environment for everyone.

Our hope is that when we do get bitchy, because we will, that you do not lose sight of the fact that we chose our path because we wanted to work with children. We want to teach, comfort and nurture them. Sometimes we need to be reminded of this fact, as well. We chose childcare because we love children.

It’s the parents that we need to write about.
